Klara and the Sun.

It is the future (perhaps nearer that you think). Humanoid androids are common enough to be treated as a commodity and sold in a metropolitan department store as AF’s (artificial friends)

In this subculture Klara, (Hypnotically played by Jenna Ortega) a droid who has been superseded by a newer model struggles as a static model in the display window to be purchased by people in the passing throng without interacting with any of them. In the crowd a young girl (Josie, played by Mia Tharia) catches Klara’s eye. Against store policy she interacts with the youngster. Bringing her unwilling mother ( Played by Amy Adams) to the window she convinces her to buy the outdated droid as her companion to take home in a box on a trial basis. Josie unaware that she has a fatal disease brought on my her mothers earlier intervention in having her “genetically lifted” to enhance her abilities to supersede her own exacting standards. The two soon strike up a close bond. Klara based on her experiences in the department store window believes that the sun has magical healing powers that she could marshal to heal Josies illness, secretly praying to the orb to cure her friend.

Based on the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro (Remains of the Day)

What could have been a gloomy dystopian tale is instead rife with hopeful human attributes and foibles.

(Hopefully there are still some remaining) 436 stars.
